Carib Beer XI vs Battersea Badgers - June 15th 2010

Our second game of the year was against some new opposition, the Battersea Badgers. We'd got the game through the friend of someone who once used to know a friend of someone else who went church someone who played them once, which meant we were somewhat unsure of their cricketing skills going into the match. Nevertheless, we assumed that they were a good bunch, and unofficially downgraded the game to category 2 as we passed the Off License outside Finsbury Park station and headed up to the ground at Wray Crescent.

There were a mixture of both teams present, with more arriving all the time, so the rookie stand in skipper Carib Rogerson located the opposition captain to agree terms and toss up. Unfortunately, for the second week running, the old timer promptly loss the toss and the Caribs were inserted, giving the old boy a loss ratio of 100% for the 2010 season so far. Unfortunately, batting first, it's much harder to find people willing to open the batting (opening while batting second means starting on the beer sooner, but no such benefit accrues while batting first), however, Messrs Guy Butler and Newman House Ringer Ben Watt were eventually cajoled into the roles, and our innings got underway.

to be continued ....
